Use of the China Wall
The term "China Wall" refers to a function that ensures the confidentiality of data related to a matter by restricting access to authorized persons.
In the legal field, it also means preventing a person or persons from having access to information in the file. This may be necessary, for example, in the context of a lawyer joining a new firm, resulting in a conflict of interest with respect to a particular file or client. A China Wall can then be put in place for that file to avoid a conflict of interest.
Effect of the Chinese Wall
When a China Wall is activated, only authorized persons have access to this matter. They are also the only ones to see it in the matters list.
For unauthorized persons, this matter is simply invisible.
