How to cancel an expired, misplaced or NSF in-trust check?

Step 1: Click on the "Finances" tab in the main menu.

Step 2: Select the "Advance received (Collection)" option under the "Trusts" section.

Step 3: Select the matter where the expired or misplaced check was issued and click the "Accept" icon to confirm the selection.

Step 4: Ensure that you have selected the in-trust account from which the expired or misplaced check was issued.

Step 5: Indicate the expiry date of the check or the date it was misplaced.

Step 6: Indicate the amount of the expired or misplaced check.

Step 7: Select the payment method.

Step 8: Use the "Comments" section to leave an explanatory note.

Step 9: Click "Save and Close" to finalize the transaction.

If a new check is to be issued, continue with the following steps:

Step 10: Click on the "Finances" tab in the main menu.

Step 11: Select the "Advance used (Withdrawal)" option under the "Trusts" section.

Step 12: Select the in-trust account from which you are issuing the new check.

Step 13: Indicate the date you are issuing the new check.

Step 15: Select the payment method.

Step 16: Click on "Add" under the "Matter" section.

Step 17: Select the folder and click the "Accept" icon to confirm the selection.

Step 18: Enter the new check amount.

Step 19: Indicate the recipient of the check.

Step 20: Click "Save and Close" to finalize the transaction.


Result:

The expired or misplaced check is cancelled by the first part of the steps. At your next bank reconciliation, you will be able to check off the expired or misplaced check and the "Advance Received (Collection)" transaction. These 2 transactions cancel each other out and allow you to adjust the list of outstanding checks.
