Matter Billing Types

Information sheet about the available types of tarification for matters

Feature available for all editions of the software.

Before you begin: Please note that permissions to your access profile may be required to perform the following steps. We invite you to validate your access with your software administrator.


When a matter is created, you must choose a tarification type.

Here are some of the features of the different tarification types.

Non-billable

  • Billable activities entered in the matter (fees and disbursements) will not appear in work in progress and cannot be billed

Fixed Fee

  • Billable activities entered in the matter (fees and disbursements) will appear in work in progress

  • When invoicing, billable fees will be available for invoicing, but their amount will be zero in step 2 of the invoicing process

  • The entire flat fee will be automatically entered as fees in step 3 of the invoicing process

  • Billable disbursements are not included in the calculation of the flat fee amount and will be added separately to the invoice

  • All activities entered as billable fees will be listed on the invoice under the Fees section with the flat fee amount as the total fees charged

Hourly Rate

  • Billable activities entered in the matter (fees and disbursements) will appear in work in progress and can be billed normally

Legal Aid

  • Billable activities entered in the matter (fees and disbursements) will appear in work in progress and can be billed normally

  • Time entries (fees) for this type of billing are in their own category for certain statistical reports

Pro bono excluding expenses

  • Billable fees are not added to work in progress

  • Billable disbursements appear in work in progress and can be billed

  • Time entries (fees) for this type of billing are in their own category for certain statistical reports

Pro bono including expenses

  • Billable activities entered in the file (fees and disbursements) will not appear in work in progress

  • Time entries (fees) for this type of billing are in their own category for certain statistical reports
